Description:
Chicago: Argus Books, 1931. Hardcover. Near fine/good. 8vo, 9.75 x 6.5 inches, blue cloth stamped in red, in dust jacket, book about fine, many pages unopened and uncut at the fore-edge, jacket good with toning, edgewear, 2.5" tear to top of rear panel, chip at spine head reattached with document repair tissue on verso. Illustrated with charming semi-erotic deco vignettes and occasional plates throughout. Called by many lesbian poetry, first published in 1894 with Louys claiming to have discovered this contemporary of Sappho -- at the time it fooled many scholars and now is known as an example of "pseudotranslation." Very uncommon in dust jacket.
