The binding shows light to moderate rubbing and wear but is sound. Some pale spotting on the spine. INSCRIBED on the front flyleaf, "To Herbert, on his birthday. Feb. 15th 1911- From his Mother." We believe this was written by the author, Metta Folger Townsend. We have another copy of this book, inscribed and signed by her, and the handwriting is identical. Both copies came from the same source.

INSCRIBED by the author on the front flyleaf, "To my friend Nathan Wilson, with the hope that he may find pleasure in this story. From Metta Folger Townsend. Leaksville, N.C. / April 8, 1912." Leaksville was the former name of Eden, North Carolina in Rockingham County.
