A novelization of the Paramount historical adventure film OLD IRONSIDES, which was released in the U.S. in 1926, this particular edition -- for whatever reason -- does NOT contain any bound-in stills, nor does the jacket art specifically reference the movie (except for the words "Paramount Picture"); internally, the film is mentioned only briefly, in the last paragraph of the "Editor's Note." The Readers Library published affordable editions of popular fiction in the period 1924-35, cheaply produced but very attractive with their wrap-round dustwrapper artwork. Novelisation by Anna Maria Rose Wright (1890-1968)* of the 1926 Paramount film 'Old Ironsides' starring Charles Farrell, Esther Ralston and Wallace Beery, directed by James Cruze (IMDB). Originally published in the US by Grosset & Dunlap (c1926), this copy from Readers Library was published with the film's UK release title of 'Sons of the Sea'. Hardback in dustwrapper. 252pp. Size: 6.75 x 4.25 inches approx. (169mm x 106mm). A stirring tale of American naval adventure during the War of 1812, this epic film stars Wallace Beery, Esther Ralston, George Bancroft, and Charles Farrell. Fine in a bright dust jacket with a couple of minor nicks. The front panel of the dust jacket shows a color painting of Charles Farrell as the Commodore in full naval uniform brandishing a sword and instructing a sailor in firing a cannon against an attacking ship. The rear panel shows Esther Ralston waving to the sailing “Old Ironsides.”
