Original (or contemporary) green cloth stamped in blind on the sides and lettered in gold on the front panel and the spine panel, glazed yellow endpapers. Frontispiece and fifteen numbered plates with sixteen hand-colored illustrations and fourteen in black and white from drawings by the author taken on site during a series of expeditions to the Bontebok Flats and other hunting grounds. Each scene is described in the text with details on the game and the methods of hunting. The plates are in remarkably good condition with some occasional light spots. INSCRIBED, SIGNED and dated 1946 by Carl Rungius on the blank FFEP and SIGNED by Schaldach, the author, on the same page. Copies signed by Rungius are very uncommon. Very good condition with slight fraying spine ends, usual light browning of pages, very tips lower corners rubbed, no previous owner marks or writing on any pages other than the signed inscription and author signature. Original slipcase has 1cm deep loss of cover paper at spine ends, complete cover labels (front and back) that are not chipped, some splitting along one spine edge but connections holding well. Original green cloth binding stamped in white. With reportedly 400 copies of this book printed, it appeared shortly after the death of the author (complications of malaria and pneumonia). Anderson was a founding member of the famed East African Professional Hunters Association. One of the scarcer, important books on African elephant hunting. Some cloth soil and splotchiness else this is a very good minus copy.. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Very Good.
