About This Item

Kilmacolm, Scotland: Partick Press, 1992. AUTHOR'S PRESENTATION COPY. From a total edition of 300 numbered copies. 254 x 178 mm. (10 x 7"). [viii], 37, [5] pp.
Original quarter yellow cloth over marbled paper boards, upper cover with printed paper label, title in gilt on spine. Title vignette, one in-text and three full-page illustrations, five tipped-in photographs, and one tipped-in folding map. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR on limitations page. Rear pocket with three pieces of facsimile printed ephemera inside a printed envelope. As new, with just a breath of wear to extremities.

This charming piece of fine press is a satirical history of the fictitious "Great North Bodoni Railway Company" golf club on the equally fictitious island of San Serriffe. Author and printer David Hamilton ran the Partick Press for his self-published books on golf and medicine, including a series of short letterpress works on fine paper, as here..

About Phillip J. Pirages Fine Books and Medieval Manuscripts

Phillip J. Pirages Fine Books an Manuscripts was established in 1978 on a ping pong table in a basement in Kalamazoo, Michigan. From the beginning, its founder was willing to sell a range of material, but over the years, the business has gravitated toward historical artifacts that are physically attractive in some way--illuminated material, fine bindings, books printed on vellum, fore-edge paintings, beautiful typography and paper, impressive illustration. Today, the company still sells a wide range of things, from (scruffy) ninth century leaves to biblical material from all periods to Wing and STC imprints to modern private press books to artists' bindings. While we are forgiving about condition when something is of considerable rarity, we always try to obtain the most attractive copies possible of whatever we offer for sale.
