New York: Farrar & Rinehart, (1943). First Edition. First Printing Near fine in ivory cloth covered boards with a gilt on blue text block on the spine and decorated end papers. The cloth at the lower end of the spine and the lower rear corners of the boards shows a faint dampness stain which has not migrated to any other parts of this copy In a very near fine, unclipped dust jacket very slight wear to the ends of the spine area and two tiny closed tears to the upper edge of the front panel. Signed by "James Branch Cabell" one of the authors on the fly title page. The 24th volume in the Rivers of America Series. Co-authored with A. J. Hanna. 324 pages including an index and bibliography. Despite the minor flaws noted above, this is a handsome collectible copy.

Illustrated by Doris Lee. Additionally INSCRIBED "To/***/with the best wishes/of his old friend/'The finisher'/Geo. A. Zabriskie/Feb 25/45." Zabriskie (1860-1954) was President of the American Printing History Association from 1939-1947; as well, he as an accomplished amature bookbinder. No doubt he is responsible for the unique binding of this title - half-leather and marbled boards with gilt ruling & board edges; 5 raised bands to spine with elaborate gilting & lettering; top edge gilt; marbled endpapers; inner dentelles. A fine copy. Fitzgerald S19 states "This limited edition is extremely rare." A fine copy. The St. Johns river begins in lower Georgia and flows down the state of Florida to a short distance beyond Orlando. Twenty-fourth volume in the "Rivers of America" series.
