About This Item

Abingdon: Purnell, 1975. Book Club. Hardcover. Very Good/very good. A detailed and comprehensive examination of the Soviet Navy (at time of publication). The author was a former Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence in the Royal Navy, and at time of writing, was the editor of the prestigious 'Jane's Fighting Ships'. He therefore writes with some authority on all aspects of Soviet naval power, including their ships; tactics; strategy; training; command structure; bases; shipyards; dispositions; and manpower. Central to the book are photographs of just about every vessel flying the Soviet flag at that time, with identification profiles and technical details of weaponry, performance, dimensions, etc, etc. It's all here - fast-attack boats; submarines; corvettes; frigates; destroyers; aircraft carriers; mine warfare vessels; amphibious forces; support & depot ships; intelligence collectors (spy-ships); survey & research vessels - plus information on Soviet Naval Air Force and Soviet Naval Infantry. Includes appendices on Soviet naval missiles; anti-submarine weapons; naval radars; and ocean surveillance satellites. An essential reference for naval historians and enthusiasts of the Cold War era. Contains 255 pages, 25 x 19.5cm, and illustrated throughout with b&w photos and 2-D profiles. Blue cloth boards in Very Good pictorial dust jacket. Internally, Very Good: clean, bright and unmarked in excellent bindings.
