(Studio City, CA): Three Penny Press, 1959. First Edition. Pamphlet. Good. [16] leaves. Poetry by W. Maurice Lacy, Walter C. Brown, and "Vincent Beldon," aka Frank Zappa. Illustrations by Rico Rivera. This is one of the earliest published works by Zappa, when he was just 18 years old. His poem, "L.A. Night Piece," is a list poem of the sort popularized by Beat poets like Allen Ginsberg. The authorship of this poem, in a small, little known literary journal (that also published Lenore Kandel, another writer in the Beat orbit), was proven when the typescript surfaced. In 2002, Alan Zipkin of Derringer Books turned up Zappa's original submission of "L.A. Night Piece" to Three Penny Press, accompanied by letters from Zappa asking that his poem be published under the pseudonym "Vincent Beldon." The editor agreed and this Zappa work would have been lost but for the preservation of the Zappa letters. Note: There was a second Three Penny Press title with the same name but without the Beldon/Zappa contribution. Quite uncommon. First edition (first printing). Good in yellow wrappers (paperback). Rear wrapper tanned; a bit of waviness to pages with signs of old dampstaining, several leaves separating from staples and loose or nearly loose; some surface loss to covers at the spine. There are two covers to this issue, with different designs. This is the one in yellow wrappers (also seen in blue; priority unknown).
