Stanford Short Stories Nineteen Forty-Nine (1949)

by Stegner, Wallace; Evan Connell

Condition: See description

Stanford, CA: Stanford University Press, 1949. First edition. Hardcover. 165pp. Octavo [22 cm] Light brown cloth over boards with an orange ink stamped title on the spine. Very good condition. There is a very subtle lean to the spine, and the spine ends and corners of the covers are nominally bumped and rubbed. The endsheets are darkened, and the pages are tanned. In a very good dust jacket, with heavy age-toning. There are multiple small open tears in the edges, and there is a very small open tear along the front fold of the jacket's spine. Contributors include Dean Cadle, John H. Kendrick, and Rhoda Lecoq. "... it will be clear from the quality of these stories as well as from the quality of writing coming from other colleges and universities that a great many young writers have chosen since the war to learn their art in the universities rather than in Greenwich Village or the hobo jungles." - Wallace Stegner in the Preface.
