About This Item

New York: Farrar Straus Giroux, 1979. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Fine/Near Fine. Amtmann, Airdrie. 12mo. SIGNED with inscription by illustrator, dated 1980. Original green cloth boards, silver stars to front board. 25 pp. B&W illustrations. Fine condition. Dust jacket slightly sunned at spine, minor wear to joints and bumping to edges. "Once on a time and twice on a time, there was a tiny lassie who would weep all day to have the stars in the sky to play with; she wouldn't have this, and she wouldn't have that, but it was always the stars she would have. So one fine day, off she went to find them..." This simple tale of wanting what you cannot have has inspired Airdrie Amtmann to make pictures of imaginative intricacy, dreamy yet precise. The night landscape of forest and sea is captured in a delicate net of pen-and-ink lines. The Stars in the Sky, Airdrie Amtmann's first book, introduces an extraordinarily gifted and distinctive artist.
