Dayton, OH.: The National Cash Register Company.. 1909.. Color illustrated booklet; 9 x 6 ¼ inches; 32 pp (unnumbered); heavy paper covers. Four inch crease running from top edge of rear cover to free edge; bumped bottom corner of front cover; center pages have come lose from staple binding. Overall good clean condition, save for issues noted. A morality tale written in tortured verse. A young man, infatuated by a woman he cannot marry for want of wealth, takes to stealing from the cash drawer of his employer's firm. He is caught out and, in short order we're treated to: trial, prison, death. His businessman father, however, profits from the son's temptation and fall from virtue; he buys a National Cash Register, guaranteeing no employee of his will be tempted, as was his lovelorn son, to dip into a cash drawer. In sum: an odd ephemeral item obliquely promoting, through verse, the wherewithall to foil employee theft. .
