About This Item

1675 1ed Cornelius Nepos Lives ROME Cato Hannibal Alcibiades Philosophy Delphini

Cornelius Nepos was a 1st-century BC Roman author whose works have mostly all been lost. However, his one surviving work is "Excellentium Imperatorum Vitae" which is a collection of biographical descriptions of Roman and foreign leaders. According to Roberts, this work details

"Roman kings, generals, lawyers, orators, poets, historians, and philosophers."

Such names include Themistocles, Hannibal, Alcibiades, Cato the Elder, Atticus, and several military generals from the Punic Wars.

This rare 1675 edition was published in Paris by Leonard – First Delphini edition and first edition to include the notes and commentary of Nicolaus Courtin.
