New York: Houghton Mifflin, 1896. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good +/no dust jacket. Oliver Herford. Joel Chandler Harris The Story of Aaron is for sale from The First Edition. Joel Chandler Harris The Story of Aaron has the original beige coloured binding with the front board that features a large illustration by Oliver Herford of two young people upon a large black horse with the title above in bright gilt. The spine of the book also has black lettering, and the back board bearing a rabbit motif in a circle in black to the centre. The binding is in Very Good condition with the front board being extremely clean and attractive, the back board having light black marks, and there are knocks to the top and bottom of the spine. Joel Chandler Harris The Story of Aaron pages are very clean and in overall Very Good condition with only the lightest of age toning to the margins, slight cracking/tear to the paper in the joint of the front free endpaper (cosmetic not structural), and the Frontispiece partly detached but still bound into the book, with all the other pages being bound in. Internally, this is an extremely attractive Joel Chandler Harris first edition book from 1896.

Rare original poetry book with cloth covered boards, copyright 1880 by J. W. Shoemaker & Co. This edition published in 1906 by the Penn Publishing company, Philadelphia. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
