Three-quarter leather binding with marbled paper covered boards. Raised band and gilt title on the front spine. Gilt top edge. Untrimmed foredge. Portraits protected with loose laid in tissues. Very light edge wear to leather extremities. Inscribed by the author on the right front flyleaf - "To dearest Nettie with love from Kate March 1930.". A 1956 inscription in pen written on page 1. The author, born in 1863, was an American Woman Philanthropist. Kate Macy Ladd was a heiress to her father's Standard Oil fortune and founded the Macy foundation in honor of her father. The Macy foundation promoted the health and welfare of common people. Scarce. Two copies located in OCLC as of 11/18.
