Description:
This is a handsome, custom leather-bound collection of seven volumes from the "MEDIAEVAL TOWNS SERIES" published by J.M. Dent & Sons in London. All volumes are nicely illustrated and contain at least one fold-out map (some maps are in color). Most volumes contain one or more tipped-in illustrated clippings (from another source) either affixed to an end paper, or to a page within the text; some clippings are placed loosely between the pages. Beautiful full-leather binding with intricate gilt decorations on the covers, four raised bands on the spines, marbled end papers, ribbon page markers, gilt lettering on the spines, and gilt page edges on all sides. The series was inspired by travels J.M. Dent had enjoyed during the 1890's.The collection includes the following seven volumes:* The Story of VERONA by Alethea Wiel (1907)* The Story of AVIGNON by Thomas Okey (1911)* The Story of PERUGIA by Margaret Symonds and Lina Duff Gordon (1912)* The Story of ROUEN by Theodore Andrea Cook (1917)* The Story of… Read More
