Brown cloth binding with "Yaddo" stamped in gilt on front boards. All edges gilt. Katrina Trask was the author of novels, plays and poems and the wife of Wall Street financier Spencer Trask. The Trasks completed construction of a mansion, named Yaddo, on their multi-acre Saratoga Springs, New York estate that served as their summer home. After the early deaths of all four of their children, the Trasks decided to bequeath their fortunes to establish Yaddo as an artist's colony after their death. It has been a summer retreat for thousands of fine artists, musicians and writers since its establishment in 1900. Katrina Trask wrote the story of how Yaddo came to be in this book, which was published after her death and several hundred copies distributed to friends of Yaddo. A scarce and interesting title about this important American artistic institution. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 214 pages .
