About This Item
Presumably an indispensable book to sea-going officers, it was continually reprinted, with the latest edition I found being the seventh (1894). The author was an expert in British maritime law.
Condition of the book is Acceptable. The binding is straight and sound. Inside pages are complete. The prior owner's name is on front free endpaper. The main condition issues are:
1) Moderate wear to the boards, and
2) The text block is stiff from prior exposure to dampness. Pages have characteristic waviness, but no noticeable damp stains. The book remains in readable condition.

Legendary text referred to by Joseph Conrad in his nautical memoirs 'The Mirror and the Sea.' He says it was indispensable during the Age of Sail but with the advent of the coal fired steamship became a thing of his youth.
