About This Item
Los Angeles: Holloway House Publishing Company, 1973. First Edition. First Printing (stated), with a synopsis (not a list of titles) on rear wrapper. Octavo (17.5cm); original pictorial wrappers; [6],7-190,[2]pp. Some wear to spine ends and extremities, diagonal crease to rear cover, with subtle tanning to text edges; Very Good+. Detroit author's fourth stand-alone novel, "a gutsy account of an inner city gold-hatted, high-bouncing lover...He's known as Earl the Black Pearl, and he's up from the ghetto - way up. He views the streets from his fashionable penthouse with its wall-to-wall silk suits and women. He's everybody's mellow fellow, a big spender, the toast of the Inner City" (from rear wrapper). Goines, deeply influenced by the works of Iceberg Slim, cranked out sixteen novels during his brief literary career; he was found murdered with his common-law wife in their Detroit apartment on October 21, 1974. HUBIN, p.171.
