About This Item

New York: Street Railway Publishing Company. First Edition. Original brown beveled pebbled cloth. 11.75" by 9.5". vii, 487 pp. Slight fraying at head and foot of spine, one-inch separation along one spine edge, very small spot on back cover, partially cracked inside front cover (still very tight), one-inch edge tear of front free endpaper close to spine, otherwise internals very nice, no previous owner markings of any kind, Very Good indeed. The content is very thorough, including chapters on electric traction; cable traction; horse traction; steam, air and gas motors; inclined planes; rack rail inclines; elevated roads; car building; track construction, discipline and rules; charter-franchises-stocks and bonds; bookkeeping and the classification of street railway accounts; leading types of cars illustrated; and auxiliary appliances illustrated. An appendix to the first chapter follows these chapters. Railways from all over the country are highlighted. Many of the technical drawings--including those of machines and cars--are nothing short of breathtaking. There is even a drawing of a funeral car. A very nice copy of a book exceedingly hard to find that contains a wealth of content and gorgeous illustrations. . Very Good. Hard Bound. First Edition. 1892.
