London: Printed By William Savage for William Miller. Very Good. 1807. Hardcover. Red three-quarter leather with gilt imprint, over marbled paper boards. Leather has stains, rubbed edges, and bumped corners. Gilt top edge and lightly soiled uneven fore edge, with light soil on text pages. Marbled endpapers have offset onto blank endpapers, and a front endpaper has the handwritten postmarked address of a former owner pasted in. A few penciled marks. Xxiv, [1]-295, [1] blank, [8] adverts, with folding color frontispiece and illustrated title page. Written anonymously by forger of Shakespearean documents William Henry Ireland (1775-1835) in the years after he had been exposed and published his own confessions, this volume contains anecdotes and verse of what seem to be the author's many pet peeves and objects of disdain, "Of Foolish Priests and Babbling Parsons in the Choir", "Of Fools Who Pretend to Despise Death", "Of New Fashions, and Fools that Wear Disguised Garments", and so forth. ; 6 3/4" x 4 1/2"; 295 pp .

The anonymous anecdotes and satirical verse of, notorious forger of Shakespearean documents, William Henry Ireland (1775-1835). The book, a homage to German humanist Sebastian Brant's Ship of Fools (Basel, 1494), savagely attacks the types of people and objects the author disdains most, including Foolish Unprofitable Books. .
