ont> John Sharpe : London, 1817 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. A charming volume of the work of William Cowper 'Table Talk and Other Poems'. A leather bound copy of William Cowper's 'Table Talk and Other Poems', with an illustrated frontispiece by R Westall. William Cowper was a English Poet born in 1731. An extremely successful poet, he could indeed be considered a forerunner to the romantic movement of 18th century. In later life, after being institutionalised for insanity, Cowper found emotional and creative refuge in the Evangelical Church, giving him the inspiration to write hymns. He is also known for writing numerous anti-slavery poems, and his work was often quoted by Dr Martin Luther King Jr. during the civil rights movement of the 20th century. R Westall was a English painter and illustrator, most famous for his portraits of Lord Byron. Condition: In a morocco leather binding with gilt detailing. Externally smart. Slight rubbing to the head and tail of the spine, to the raised bands and also to the extremities. Evidence of bookplate removal to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally clean, with some slight agetoning and the odd spot throughout. Slight offsetting to the verso of the illustrated title page. Overall Condition: Very Good.

Engraved frontispece and title page. Text has some light foxing. Leather binding supple in nice condition. Binding rubbed a little on edges. Very good condition..
