Description:
London: Michael Joseph, 1961. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Near Fine/Very Good. From an auction of modern first editions with the auction tag laid into the book--a near fine copy in a very good plus unclipped dustjacket. This copy is signed by the author on the title page--signature only. A clean and tight copy with no evidence of previous ownership. A little dustiness to the outside page edges. The dustjacket is complete with moderate edgewear to the head and heel of the spine and to the tips--but the front panel is bright and vibrant--the dustjacket spine is darkened. From the author of "The Manchurian Candidate" and "Prizzi's Honor"--this novel is set on a ranch in the mid 19th Century. A nice collectible copy.

Description:
London: Michael Joseph. Very Good+ in Very Good+ dj. 1963 (c.1961). 1st U.K. edition. Hardcover. [one-time owner's small bookplate on ffep, some discoloration to half-title page (probably from a newspaper clipping, once laid-in but now vanished); jacket lightly browned at spine, with some minor soiling]. INSCRIBED and SIGNED in large red-ink letters by the author on the front pastedown. "The cowboy novel to end all cowboy novels," in the author's words, a "non-historical comedy," about a couple of fellows competing to win the hand of the nymphomaniacal daughter of a Mexican rancher. (A curse has been put on the ranch, you see, which is why she's nymphomaniacal in the first place, and the only way her father can lift the curse is to marry her off.) Adapted into the 1969 film of the same name, starring that well-known comedy duo Richard Widmark and Chaim Topol, with Condon himself doing the screenplay. Supposedly the property was once proposed as a movie… Read More
