The stories include: "The Sandman", "The Mines of Falun", "Councillor Krespel", "Don Juan", "The Mystery of the Deserted House", "The Vow", "Mademoiselle de Scudery", "The Entail", "The Uncanny Guest", and "Gambler's Luck". Rendered into English from the German by various translators. Some of these stories formed the basis of Jacques Offenbach's opera "The Tales of Hoffmann." With eye-catching illustrations by Hugo Steiner-Prag, who has supplied a prologue. Also with an introductory essay by Arthur Ransome. Sandglass leaflet not present. --- Bound in full grey buckram with decorations and titling in red to cover and spine. Volume housed in red paper-covered slipcase. --- With soiling to cloth, slight yellowing to spine, a smudge to p.303; otherwise a tightly-bound, unmarked copy. Slipcase with light rubbing and a tear to a corner but remains structurally sound.; Tall Octavo - 9 to 10 in. tall; xxvii, 344 pages .
