Franklin Center: Franklin Library, 1986. Franklin Library Edition. Fine in dark blue leather covered boards with gilt text and decorations stamped between four raised bands on the spine. With gilt tool work on both boards and marbled paper end sheets. The edges of the text block are in gilt and there is a silk placement ribbon sewn into the binding. Michener won a Pulitzer for this title in 1948. One of the volumes from The Franklin LIbrary's collection of The Pulitzer Prize Classics. 415 pages of text with illustrations by Philippe Weisbecker.
Synopsis
Tales of the South Pacific is a Pulitzer Prize winning collection of sequentially related short stories about World War II, written by James A. Michener in 1946. The stories were based on observations and anecdotes he collected while stationed as a lieutenant commander in the US Navy on the island of Espiritu Santo in the New Hebrides Islands (now known as Vanuatu). The skipper of PT-105 met Michener while stationed at the PT boat base on Tulagi in the Solomon Islands.
