"TALES OF A WAYSIDE INN" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. 1863 true 1st edition, 1st state (with a 22 page publisher's catalog at the back of the book - the listing for "Tales Of A Wayside Inn" does NOT have a price and instead states "Nearly Ready" indicating a 1st printing); Ticknor and Fields; Boston. Includes the first appearance in book form of the famous poem, "Paul Revere's Ride." Gilt top edge. A newspaper clipping of the poem "Decoration Day (Longfellow's Last Poem)" was found within the book (not shown).

Condition:
Light soiling to covers and spine; small dark stain spot with scattered dark stain specks at the bottom edge of the back cover; the lettering on the spine has mostly faded; worn top and bottom edges of the spine; worn corners. Tight binding. Hinge cracks present before page 1, between pages 24/25 and between pages 48/49. The pages are mostly clean with no writing found and only an occasional foxing spot (heaviest foxing on frontispiece and the tissue paper over the frontispiece), light stain and ink smudge; 1" tear at the lower-outer corners of pages 47 and 131. Inscription in pen on front end paper dated 1864; name/address written in pencil on another front end paper dated 1907.
