[slight bumping/fraying to cloth at top corners and top of spine, light soiling to edges of text block, one-time owner's signature at top of ffep; jacket moderately edgeworn, some paper loss at both ends of spine, spine also slightly darkened]. The noted French-born but New York-based millinerista (I made that up), whose fashionable hats were all the rage in the 1930s and 1940s, here "explains the finer points of this illusive thing called glamour with such contagious enthusiasm that you find yourself making a mental checkup on your outlook on life, your face, your figure, your hair, your clothes, your posture, your speaking voice, your home, and the man in your life!" Interior is clean and tight. The dust jacket is in good condition with some shelf wear, slight fading to spine, minor loss to bottom of spine, creasing to top of spine and rubbing to edges. Lilly Daché (1892-1989) was a French-born American milliner and fashion merchandiser. She started her career in a small bonnet shop, advanced to being a sales lady at Macy's department store, and from there started her own hat business. She was at the peak of her business career in the 1930s and 1940s. Her contributions to millinery were well-known custom-designed fashion hats for wealthy women, celebrates, socialites, and movie stars. Her hats cost about ten times the average cost of a lady's hat. Green spine/black and white text. #031989. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/Good. 8vo. Fashion.
