[72], 540 pp. Engraved arms at head of dedication and three engraved plates. Contemporary vellum with leather loop and toggle fastening. Spine lettered in manuscript. Some light foxing and occasional thumb-soiling, worm track on leaves Nn2-Rr1 (pp. 215-246), affecting a few words, two of the plates shaved a little close at fore-edge, without front and rear fly leafs. A very good copy of this rare and important work. ìThis interesting history of ancient Mexico, written in the form of a dialogue between an Indian and a Spaniard, and divided into seventeen ëNights,í is very little known in Europe, and is very rare in Mexico. The author held several important offices in the latter country, among which was the superintendence of the Missions among the Mexican Indians...On pp. 90 to 94, will be found a fragment of Aztec poetry, written by a poet of the euphonious name of Notzahualcoyotl, and translated into Spanish by the author. One of the most curious subjects treated in this work, is that of the Mexican Calendar with the names of the days in Mexican and in Spanishî (Field). Field 620. Palau 108426. Sabin 28255.
