About This Item

Atlanta Georgia: A.B. Caldwell, 1908. First Edition. . Hardcover. Very Good/None Isssued. VG/1st ed. William Henry Fleming graduated from the University of Georgia in 1874 and served as superintendent of the Augusta and Richmond County Georgia public schools from1877 until 1880. He gained admittence to the state bar and began a law practice in Augusta. From 1888 to 1896 Fleming served in the Georgia House of Representatives and was the Georgia speaker of the House in 1894 and 95. He was also the president of the Georgia State Bar Association 1895. These speeches were made during Fleming's political career and the last speech, "Slavery and the Race Problem in the South" which was an address given at University of Georgia in 1906, was published as a stand alone pamphlet in 1906. Book condition is Very Good; 299 pages, First Edition. Many apparently short speeches, and an index. Maroon cloth cover, with readable but dulled gilt lettering on spine and front cover. No exposed boards but many small areas of loss of color to cloth and area of soiling on front panel. No foxing, binding secure. No breaks in gutters. Interesting prospective on Georgia and U.S. politics at the end of the 19th century
