Tarzana: Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc., 1938 The Burrough's-published stated first edition, with illustrations by John Coleman Burroughs. Full page color frontis of Tarzan in an undersea battle, w/ a clean and bright dust jacket also illustrated by J.C. Burroughs and dated the year of publication. There are four b/w full page illustrations in the text as well. A very nice copy indeed. "Love and hate and jealousy and intrigue play their parts on a battle of wits and endurance where courage and loyalty contend with duplicity, cruelty, superstition, and savagery." Condition notes - 315 numbered pp +1; HB w/DJ. Pages: clean, bright, tight, red topstain, f.e. deckled; the occasional speck or light smudge. Cover: med blue w/ red titles front/spine; lt shelfwear, extrems v mildly . DJ: unclipped, glossy white in Brodart, bad man overpowering spunky blonde female, red, gray, and reverse titles front, red, black, and reverse title spine; modest edge/shelfwear with several short closed tears, tail mildly tattered, head tattered w/ 0.5" by 1" triangular chip which takes most of the "T", about half of the "a" and a small piece of the "r" in the title, and a small scuff that takes a portion of the word "and"; sm ghost back.
