Satirical review started as a reaction to the evils of Communism, Nazism , American Influence and the perceived feebleness of the French govt. - hypernationalist, right-wing, anti-democratic stuff - beautifully presented. Iribe wrote most of the material himself and provided most of the drawings - witty and elegant as one expects from him. As a sustained outpouring of political and polemical satire in a very personal and powerful form LE TEMOIN is one of the Great Twentieth Century journals in the genre. Iribe was very close to the Couturier CHANEL and used her image to represent Marianne (The spirit of La France) throughout the work. Her austere profile and red cap appear throught the pages. LE TEMOIN was the third of the Political Reviws created by Iribe, There was the first series of LE TEMOIN (l906-1908) followed by LE MOT (in collaboration with Jean Cocteau) - extraordinary images - anti-German and anti-War. This set is in original parts as issued, in good condition . In this set the following issues are in facsimile 2,5,7,8,11

Offenbach, Gabriel Fabre, Maurice Rostand, Kipling's "City of Dreadful Night" in French, etc. Not high production values, some of the inking is too light, but a rare magazine that lasted only 6 numbers.
