De Foe (Dramatic Critic of the New York World) 8vo size maroon jacquard cloth bound hardcover with bright gilt titles on the cover; 246 deckle edged toned pages; 20+ illustrations. The jacquard print is a design of the theatre masks. Frontispiece has a reproduction of the author's signature. Content Sections are: The Theatre Through Its Stage Door The Evolution of a Play Developing the Best in the Actor The Problem of the Child Actor Important Aids to the Actor's Art The Drama's Flickering Bogy - The Movies Holding the Mirror Up to Nature From Chapter 1: "Could only the outer world look in upon the little, mysterious inner world of the theatre from under the dim lantern which hangs over the stage door, instead of from beneath the glittering electric lights over the front entrance, there would soon be a decrease in the never-ending but always-changing rows of eager young men and women who daily line the walls of the waiting-room and outside the office of every dramatic producer and manager..." Sunned spine with faded gilt titles, bumped corners and head and heel of spine; frontispiece of author is detached and laid in; lovely bookplate on fep. Back hinge is cracked, front hinge is cracked an inch from bottom. Illustrations contents page has some light wrinkles (a publishing defect.) . Cloth. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
