About This Item

1730 1st ed Illustrated FOLIO Bible Overton EXQUISITE ART Theatrum Passionis
John and Henry Overton were English print-sellers at the beginning of the 18th-century. Little is known of their lives, particularly John. However, the engravings that are known to exist, printed by Henry, are considered exceedingly rare and desirable works of art.
'Theatrum Passionis' is an early 18th-century collection of engravings published by Overton, each of which depicts the life of Jesus and notable New Testament stories involving Jesus. In addition to the engravings, this work is a complete New Testament Bible, with annotations of each book.
Curiously, this work is a complete oddity. Research yields no clues to its origins, nor is it in any notable references. A remarkable, unique piece with impressive illustrations!
