About This Item

The First UK printing published by Heinemann, London in 1958. The BOOK is in Very Good++ condition. There is a slight lean with some ghosting to the spine. The gilt titling remains bright. Light toning to the spine with a hint of offsetting to the end-papers. Free from inscriptions and erasures. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition. A little light edge wear to the upper spine end. Mild toning and spotting to the edges of the rear cover and flaps. A very small water stain to the extreme tip of the lower spine to the verso which is tiny and barely noticeable at the lower spine flap folds - mentioned for completeness. The colouring to the spine has remained very bright with just a little fading to the orange colouring. The C.W. Bacon wrapper artwork looks striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Loosely inserted is the Publisher's Review Slip with a publication date of '9th June'. The extremely scarce author's first novel - considered his masterpiece and highly collectible in such condition. As nice a copy as you are likely to find.

Synopsis

Things Fall Apart is a 1958 English-language novel by Nigerian author Chinua Achebe. It is a staple book in schools throughout Africa and widely read and studied in English-speaking countries around the world. It is seen as the archetypal modern African novel in English, and one of the first African novels written in English to receive global critical acclaim. The title of the novel comes from William Butler Yeats' poem "The Second Coming".
