About This Item

London: Kegan Paul, Trench, Trubner & Co., Ltd, 1927. Reprint of the 1905 Fifth Edition. Hardcover. VG- (Average wear to binding edges and corners; front flyleaf has tanning; rest of pages are clean; top of book block has slight soiling; map has a tear that could be taped.). Dark green textured cloth, lightly decorated, gilt letters on spine & front cover, 591 pp., one BW plate as frontispiece, large pull-out map. A classic work that was first issued in 1890 and has gone through six editions. This is a 1927 reprint of the 1905 fifth edition. The approach is alphabetical by topic, beginning with Abacus, Abdication, and Acupuncture, and ending with Yezo, Yoshiwara, and Zoology. Includes a large colored fold-out map. Interesting on a variety of levels. Note that this is an original print edition and not an ebook, paperback, or print-on-demand title.
