No date [1935]. 1st, limited edition (30 copies); inscribed by author. Blue thin-card covers with black titles and Harbor Press device on front cover; unprinted spine; 2 color title page with Harbor Press device; heavy stock wove paper. Clean covers and spine with some age darkening along edges; inscribed on front cover 'Jenny | with love | Rob | Nov 29th '35'; tipped in at front end paper is small bookplate 'With The | Author's | Compliments'; bright, clean interior. Laid in are 2 autograph signed notes on author's letterhead addressed to 'Dearest Jenny' presenting the sonnets and discussing them. Note dated November 29th [1935] presents the work as 'one of the thirty copies of a Sonnet Sequence I had printed last May for private distribution.' 'Gandhi, Romain Rolland, are among thebright particular stars on my list.' Note dated Dec 1935 apologizes for sending an unbound copy of the Sonnets. He describes the hard cover bindings and says he has 1 remaining that 'I am keeping for Dante Sacco' and follows with limited praise for Nicola Sacco's writing and high praise of Bartolomeo Vanzetti's writing. Author was known for literary salon attended by many notable artists at his house on Washington Square, NY; notes have letterhead with this address. Owner of this copy and recipient of notes was Jenny Polhemus [Cobb] Bunker, mother of Ambassador Ellsworth Bunker, and a relative of author's mother. From the collection of Ellsworth Bunker (U.S. Ambassador to Argentina, Italy, India, Nepal, South Vietnam, Organization of American States, and twice recipient of U.S. Presidential Medal of Freedom). 8vo, 30 sonnets.
