About This Item
New York: R.F. Fenno & Company, 1910. Hardcover. Small 8vo. Tan cloth with red spine lettering and red and black front board lettering with red, black, green and blue pictorial stamping. viii, 270pp, (6pp ads). Color frontispiece, 2 full-page color plates. Good plus. Edgeworn, scuffed and lightly soiled, with rear board faintly stained; front and rear flyleaves are expert archival period replacements; internally very good. A tight, decent first edition of the first volume of the two-volume-only "Those Smith Boys" juvenile series -- what some consider one of the truly scarcest boy's series. Although well worn, this is the extremely uncommon true first edition, not the relatively common M.A. Donohue reprint edition. Charming front board graphic depicts three smiling Smith boys in suits and ties and caps in foreground, in the background a pastoral scene of trees and distant mountains.
