Number three hundred and ninety one of five hundred and forty two copies, of which five hundred for sale. Featuring lovely coloured plates tipped in by William H Cotton, American portrait painter and artist. In the original publisher's quarter straight up grain morocco binding over cloth covered boards. Externally smart with minor shelf wear, lightly rubbed to head and tail of spine and extremities. Previous ownership inscription to front free endpaper, dated 1943. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with only minor odd spotting to fore edge Very Good Indeed

Untrimmed in calf backed cloth boards, top edge gilt (spine rubbed, binding slightly worn at extremities, edges somewhat darkened, small collector's stamp on the last page). No. 369 from 542 copies printed by D. B. Updike at the Merrymount Press. The play was dramatized from a short story "The Three Strangers" written in 1883. Six copies of an earlier version of this play was printed for copyright purposes in New York in 1893. The play was first produced at Terry's Theatre in London on June, 3, 1893. The present version was revised by the author and produced on June, 2, 1926 at Keble College, Oxford.
