Brown paper covers edgeworn, chipped at corners and spine ends with some loss to head of spine, spine browned and rubbed with chips along spine edge on rear cover, stain to head of rear cover near spine edge, red cloth covered boards sunned along edges, small gilt illustration of one of the Queen chess pieces to front and gilt lettering to spine, closed edges browned, light foxing to endpapers, illustrated frontispiece and further illustrations throughout by John Tenniel, pp clean, unmarked, pp secure in binding..
