Hobart, Australia: J. Walch & Sons, 1914. First Edition. Gye, Hal. 'Launceston is described as the front door to Tasmania. It is the front door in the tourist sense, and that door is always wide open in welcome to the vistor. Statistics are said to be "the art of proving in exact form what nobody knows." In the year 1806 during the reign of George III., Launceston was founded in the month of March... A visitor to the city of the South was once over-heard to remark "Why people want to go farther South after the Pole surprises me. Hobart is as far as I want to go. I'm satisfied." Rumour has it, too, that he wasn't an easily satisfied man.'. Octavo, illustrated paper wrappers, 70 pages, 24 black and white illustrations, covers sunned, previous owner's inscription and hand-written title on spine, internally clean and bright throughout.
