Schultz (1902-1998). Schultz was the winner of the 1979 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences jointly with W. A. Lewis. Fogel was awarded the 1993 Nobel Prize in Economics jointly with Douglass C. North. The inscription reads "To T. W. Schultz With deep appreciation for your many helpful comments and criticisms on the book and for all you have done to make the Economic History Workshop the exciting intellectual forum that it has been during the past several years. Contains the autograph of Fogel, signed in blue ink on a piece of paper a little smaller than the size of a business card, which has been laid-in on the front endpaper. The autograph reads "R.W. Fogel" under which he has written "Jan. 1978." Two tiny spots of discoloration on a front endpaper, and the previous owner's name (a Fogel family member) on the front endpaper.
