About This Item
The title story 'Titan' is a story of adventure and romance on Mars. The servant race of Blood-Givers plot to overthrow their weak degenerate Masters.Meanwhile Thorana, daughter of the First Master, has fallen in love with Korul, leader of the Blood-Givers,and together they discover that the strange bearded star beast in the Martian zoo is a man from Earth - the Titan.
The other stories included in this volume are also full of the suspense and excitement of which P. Schuyler Miller is a master.
P[eter] Schuyler Miller (1912-74) American writer and critic.Best known now,for his book reviews for Astounding Science fiction, which first appeared in 1945 and became a regular monthly feature in Oct. 1951, continuing until his death. In his life time,he accumulated one of the largest private SF collections, and the annotated 'Catalaogue of the Fantasy and Science Fiction Library of the Late P. Schuyler Miller',1977 is a useful bibliographic work.He was presented with a special HUGO award in 1963 for his reviewing.
He had previously been one of the more popular and accomplished of pulp writers of the 1930s,his first story being 'The Red Plague' (1930) in Wonder Series.Later stories of note include a Tie-Paradox variant, 'As Never Was' and 'The Titan', a story whose [mild] sexual content made it unacceptable to the pulp magazines.Instead it was serialised in MARVEL TALES during 1934-5,but the magazine ceased publication before the last instalment appeared and was not printed in its entirty until the publication of 'The Titan' (collection,1952) which assembled most of his better fiction.
