Medium cracking to gutters and hinges with exposed netting, pages are loose. Pages and illustrations have light tanning and foxing throughout. Heavier to endpapers and pastedowns. Previous owner's inscription and sticker to front pastedown and endpaper. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Slight crushing to spine ends. Wear marks overall.

London: Wells Gardner, Dartona & Co. Ltd., 1916. Hardcover. Very Good. Frank C. Papé. An abridged version of Homer's Odyssey written in prose for young people. The preface tells us that books 1-4 and 24 have been omitted. This is a very nicely presented volume with the very well commissioned wood engravings from Frank C. Papé. There are 12 [including frontispiece] wood engraving plates, numerous other head and tail pieces and a fold out map. Cream cloth covered boards with colour illustration to front and backstrip with gilt titling. TEG. Corners and top/tail of backstrip slightly bumped, but cover clean and bright. Front and rear free endpapers have offset browning. Side edge of text block has some brown spots but inside is clean and fresh. Blind stamped: 'Presentation Copy' on title page.21x15 cm. 340pp. from Otto

Pages are moderately tanned and thumbed at the edges, with creased corners and foxing. Boards have been moderately rub worn. Noticeable shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are bumped and a little frayed Spine ends are crushed, with noticeable splits and chips. Light tanning to spine and edges. Book has a forward lean.
