Garden City, New York: Doubleday & Company, Inc., 1955. 388 pages Tan Boards. Eleven Ilustrations by Will James. There are a few black and white photographs by N. H. Rose. A couple's name on the front endpaper and a short story about buying the book with a note that they visited Bootheel Grave Yard and seven other places. Store stamp on front endpaper. Interior pages are flawless. Dust jacket edges are tattered and a few small chunks missing. Jacket price 3.75 is present. Silver Stories? Bah! You'll find nawthin' in them hills but yer tombstone, warned the old scout Al Sieber. So when Ed Schieffelin struck ore, he called his claim "The Tombstone Mine," and when the news reached the outside world, the town of Tombstone, Arizona, sprang up almost overnight. The short but blazing career of the Arizona town which had the most valid claim to the title of "the toughest town west of the Mississippi" had begun. Bad men, killers, rustlers haunted the gambling dens and countryside. Indians shot stragglers; robbery and murder became common occurrences. Glasses clinked, six-shooters roared, women flooded the dance halls, and roisterers clashed with advancing law and order. The deadly Earp brothers, cold-eyed Doc Holliday, John Slaughter, the Clantons, little Johnny-behind-the-deuce, Curly Bill and his gang, and a host of others are the strange actors in this drama of Tombstone -- a drama which is part of the living legend of the West. Contents in 22 Stories: Hills of Silver, Red Lights and Altar Candles, Glad Hand and trigger Finger, Wyatt Earp Plays a Lone Hand, Curly Bill, The Affair of Skeleton Canon, Billy Breakenridge Makes Good, The Old man with a Beard, Ringo, Rusisan Bill's Little Drama, On The Benson Road, Flashes of Storm, The Show-down, The Red Road of Vengeance, The Out Trail, Johnny Ringo Cashes In, Buried Treasure, the Honeymoon Cattle Drive, the Round Table's Last Knight, Patchy, Hands Up, and Sunshine and Peace. .
