The First UK printing published by C.W. Beaumont, London in 1930. Number '40' of 100 deluxe copies which were signed by both the author and illustrator to the limitation page with hand coloured decorations by Eileen Mayo. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Publisher's pink cloth, front cover with gilt-stamped vignette and the spine with gilt-stamped title. Free from inscriptions and erasures. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ condition. Mild edge wear with a few short nicks and some age related markings in places. Very small loss to the spine ends with a small closed tear to the upper rear spine fold. Slight darkening to the spine with a tiny stain to the rear lower edge. The period wrapper design looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. Beautiful art-deco illustrations in colour and black and white throughout by Dame Eileen Mayo. There was also an unsigned trade edition in blue buckram without the hand coloured decorations. Scarce.
