Father Garces was one of the indefatigable explorers of the southwest. He made five Entradas or journeys in Sonora, Arizona, and California. On one of his trips, he went down the Rio Gila and the Rio Colorado, almost to the mouth of the latter. On another expedition, he accompanied Captain Anza to California. All these journeys are described in splendid detail in this work which is enriched by numerous valuable notes.
