Soft cover. 12mo, 18.5cm,the First Edition, vii,358p., folding frontis map with some expertrepairs at the folds, including the half title with the colophon onthe verso, rebound in contemporary style half tan calf, full giltornate decorations in the panels, green leather label gilt, darkblue cloth boards, text slight toned, a fine copy attractivelybound.(cgc) A narrative and intelligent description by a Scot whotravelled extensively in the area, including politics, towns andcities, agriculture, natural history, indigenous peoples, businssopportunities, geology, volcanoes, etc. This contains the firstmap of the Republic of Central America and one of the few everpublished since the republic broke up shortly after into theseparate nations that exist today.
