Fine modern leather. 5 raised bands, red moroccan spine labels, gilt ruled and stamped. New marbled paper end pages. Hardcover. Scattered foxing, foxing to plates, occasional marginal soiling. 12 copper plates (2 folding). 1st ed. in English. Translation of Voyage dans l'interieur de l'Afrique. Mendelssohn III, 102. "Levaillant's accounts of his first and second expeditions through South Africa, with the plate of 'La Hottentote', which was subsequently suppressed, in the first volume. Le Vaillant traveled out to the Cape to collect zoological specimens following a meeting with the treasurer of the Dutch East India Company.
