1847, first printing, 54 page pamphlet in fair to good condition. Wraps are nearly off, front is stained, title page heavily foxed with pencil notations of prior book seller. Interior is otherwise pretty good, minor to moderate foxing, no other writing or vandalism. Complete as issued. Scarce first printing of this satire on tobacco use. People have suggested for a long time that tobacco has ill effects on the health of users and those around them - here is a 19th century example of that opinion. Identification of the author is difficult - I have listed two common suggestions. I am pretty sure we can rule out Solomon Spittle. Item is rare: WordCat locates two copies of this printing (#237747794); none from this date are for sale. Please see scans of the item you will receive. Included in 'Medical' history as this pamphlet does more than hint at the health problems of tobacco users.

First edition, four volumes, 1909-1920, Washington. Overall very good condition in original bindings. Notable for the complete absence of library or ownership markings. The only marking I can find is an old pencil note on the front blank of volume 3. Includes bound in errata slips and a promotional leaf for the series laid in. The boards have some dings to the corners. Volume 3 has the most condition issues: shows the most outer wear with some stains on the edges and wear on spine and boards (see scans). Bindings are all sound, which I expect can be an issue with this heavy set. A quite decent usable set. Please see scans of the books you will receive.

Volume is Near Fine: trace wear to edges, no interior markings of any kind, binding is tight, pages are bright. Dust jacket is Poor: has some large chips and shows considerable wear but it is present. Hammond B19 and Currey p.521. Please see images of the book you will receive. Text block is sound, boards stablized. Interior is very good: No interior writing, folds, smudges or other evidence of use. There is rare foxing. Rough on the outside excellent on the inside. Full leather binding is uncommon. Paginates: blank, frontis, title, (9)-548, blank. 16 color plates including the frontis. Complete as issued. Circa 1875 edition of popular captivity narrative. Nelson & Phillips, New York. Spencer was 11 when captured in 1792. Brown blindstamped cloth, gilt title on spine. Condition is Very Good: Recased using original boards sometime in last 40 years. Modern endpapers. No interior writing, occasional foxing, some smudges, old corner folds. Small hole pp.13/14 affecting a few letters. Binding is sound. 160 pages with 4 plates and 4 engravings embedded in text all included in pagination. Contents bound at end as usual with this book. The plates and engravings are same topics and locations as the 1842 edition but are by a different engraver. True first edition is 1835 in either New York or Pennsylvania.
