London: John Murray, 1852. Hardcover . Used - very good. 12mo 228pp, with 1 page of ads. Includes 6 foldouts, including 2 maps and 4 architectural renderings, all in fine condition with just a hint of foxing. A blank prelim has been crudely torn out, and given the remains of a couple of letters in old ink, perhaps it contained an ownership or gift inscription. Giving more credence to this hypothesis is that the gilt lettering on the front panel states, 'The Gift of the Haberdashers' Company'. In full calf, spine with 5 raised bands and gilt and tooled design, with red leather spine label, lettered in gilt. Marbled endpapers and edges. Haberdashers' coat of arms on front panel. Covers with only superficial wear/markings. A handsome copy of the 'cheap' edition, essentially an abridgement of Fellows' two journals published earlier, 'A Journal Written During an Excursion in Asia Minor' (1839) and, 'An Account of Discoveries in Lycia, Being a Journal Kept During a Second Excursion in Asia Minor' (1841), to which is added, '.an account of the results of the Expedition for removing to our National Museum the works of Art which I discovered' (Fellows). Now protected in removable mylar.
