London: Printed for Benj. Motte, 1726. Teerink AA; Teerink B.. Very Good. 4 parts in 2 vols., frontispiece portrait in second state. A mixed set, the first volume conforming to Teerink's AA (second) edition and the second volume from the B (third) edition. pp. xii, 148; [6], 164; [vi], 154, [8], [155]-353, [1], 8vo, [bound with, following the relevant part:] [Corolini di Marco (pseud)] The Flying Island, &c. Being a Key to Gulliver's Voyage . In a Third Letter to Dean Swift, 1726, pp. 32. [and:] [Corolini di Marco (pseud)] The Kingdom of Horses. Being a Key . In a Fourth Letter to Dean Swift, 1726, pp. 28. Bound in contemporary paneled calf, sympathetically rebacked with new spine and end-papers. Contemporary signature penned several times on blank recto of frontis. Browning and foxing to contents of Volume I, title page and frontis is slightly remargined; patches of wear to rear cover and faded dampstaining to pages of Volume II. The first three editions were once considered to be different issues of a single first edition. Later bibliographical analysis demonstrated that they were separate editions, but Teerink, acknowledging the work done to identify them, still thought it 'advisable to stick to the well established practice of calling the three 1726 editions first', partly since both the printer and the author thought of them that way. The 'Keys' were 4 in number, one for each part, issued separately and at length collectively, the practice of binding them up with the text beginning with the B edition.

London: Benjamin Motte, at the Middle-Temple-Gate in Fleet-street, 1726. A fine copy. Four parts in two volumes, octavo; portrait of Gulliver by John Sturt engraved by Robert Sheppard and six engraved plates, five of them maps, by H. Although it had its famous detractors (notably Samuel Johnson's famously dismissive 'When once you have thought of the big men and little men, it is very easy to do… Read More

St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British.
